Resumen:

In this chapter, the importance of considering psychological variables in the study of diabetes when one of the partners is diagnosed will be highlighted. Also, how various spheres of his life such as work, sexuality, and interpersonal relationships are affected. It is here where the couple is the main actor and witness, positively impacting the health of the diabetic patient and facing the disease together. Thus, aspects such as the way the dyad communicates their thoughts, expectations, and experiences will play an important role in determining how simple or complicated it will be to cope with the adjustments and changes that diabetes implies for life as a couple, favoring or not the satisfaction with the relationship. This was studied in a sample of couples made up of a healthy and a diabetic member, exploring differences in communication style and its relationship with marital satisfaction. © The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2021.
