Resumen:

Diffraction of elastic waves by an alluvial valley of arbitrary shape embedded in an elastic half space and subjected to an incident plane horizontally polarized shear wave is investigated using a boundary integral method. The method avoids introduction of the Green functions and subsequently it eliminates the appearance of the singular integral equations. The unknown scattered wave field is expressed in terms of the wave functions which satisfy the equation of motion, appropriate radiation conditions, and stress free boundary conditions at the surface of the half space.
