Resumen:

We analyze the drought and agricultural stress monitoring capacities of the ASIS Mexico, a system implemented by the government of this country with the support of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. The analysis focuses on the ASI index, which is used for monitoring purposes, as well as the DEFICIT index, which is used for early warning. Both indexes are updated every 10 days, these products have a spatial resolution of 1 km, and were analyzed by interactive mapping as well as visualization capabilities integrated in a public geoportal. The results identify the municipalities most affected by drought for maize and sorghum crops. Also, 20 to 30 days in advance are available for warning to facilitate decision making. This time is very early considering the start of the season for these crops. It is concluded that the ASIS Mexico geoportal is an operational tool for agrometeorological surveillance in relation to agricultural stress and drought, its main applications are at municipal level.
