Resumen:

Laser surface cladding has become an extensively technique used in metallurgical applications in order to improve surface properties of materials. We have proposed this technique in the field of biomaterials to coat the surface of titanium alloy substrates used in orthopaedical implants with a calcium phosphate (CaP) bioceramic to promote the growth of the bone when the implant is inserted in the body. An exhaustive study about the influence of the processing parameters on the CaP coating properties was carried out. To tackle this subject, an appropriate selection of the relevant processing parameters was done. The coating surface morphology, the overall surface finish, microstructure, and coating composition were the main properties of the analysed coatings. The biologic properties of the coatings have been assessed in vitro with human-osteoblast-like MG-63 cells.
