Resumen:

Descriptive studies can be the point of departure for more complex studies both in geriatrics and in gerontology. The ongoing need of information regarding new conditions highly prevalent in the older adults, begins with a thorough description of these phenomenon in addition to the magnitude of them in specific populations and its associations with other variables. This newly generated knowledge can aid the general public and in particular health professionals in identifying these emerging conditions and leave aside current stigma that attributes these problems only to aging. This chapter will describe the different types of descriptive studies, illustrating with current literature both in the field. © Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018.
