Resumen:

Violence has been part of the lives of individuals. The term "bullying or peer abuse" is currently used to designate violence among children of about the same age at schools. It is characterized by the presence of an intentionally repeated and unjustified aggressive behavior of a child or group of children towards another with the objective of inflicting physical or emotional harm to the victim. In developed countries, the prevalence is very high. Usually, physical abuse is common among boys and young men while discrimination and psychological abuse are more frequent among girls and young women. In recent years, there has emerged a new form of bullying known as "cyberbullying." This form of bullying is defined as an aggressive act by a student or group of students using electronic devices. Customarily, the actors in play in the issue of bullying are constituted by the provokers, the aggressor, the victim, the observers or witnesses and the authorities. Usually, the authorities are the last to know about the situation and this normally happens when the victim's parent raise their voice or file in a report. Apart from the physical harm, victims of bullying may suffer different associated pathologies such as depression and suicidal attempts. For this reason, the development of a program of actions involving the participation of the school authorities, the students, parents and the society in general directed to the prevention of the phenomenon through communication with the responsible authorities, students supervision within the classrooms, the school environment and their immediate surroundings, and the psychological therapy of the victims if the need be. In this chapter, we review all aspects of bullying, bringing into limelight the actors in play, the sites of occurrence, its modalities, and the basic and extreme clinical characteristics as well as the curative and preventive interventions necessary to curb this phenomenon. © 2018 Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
