Resumen:

Cell death occurs during normal development, and is also the end result and a key pathogenic event in many neurological disorders. Cell death in neurological disorders may sometimes occur by apoptosis or other cell death programs that normally function in development. In other settings, cell death is necrotic and triggered by energy failure. Surprisingly, even necrotic cell death is often driven by an underlying cell death program. Interventions targeting cell death programs can reduce or slow cell death in animal models of several neurological disorders. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
