Resumen:

Benign breast alterations are lesions with high prevalence and potentially cancerogenous. There are relatively few studies with respect to their epidemiology and etiology. The most prevalent benign lesions comprise fibrocystic diseases and dominant masses, which include fibroadenomas, cysts, and galactoceles. According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), 9 of every 10 women exhibit benign changes in microscopically examined breast tissues. The incidence of the disease has not been widely studied, but in general these lesions arise during the second decade of life, with peaks in the fourth and fifth life decades, in contrast with malignant diseases. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the epidemiological information available, including frequencies and risk factors, with the aim of providing the reader with useful information for the management and control of this group of diseases. © 2014 by Nova Science Publishers, Inc.
