Resumen:

Several configurations of Combined Heat and Power plant (CHP) were sized and analysed for an industrial metal casting facility. This energy is used to produce the thermal and electricity requirements for the plant. Considering that wasted streams reach temperatures over than 400°C, configurations of gas turbine, steam turbine and combined cycles were designed. The results showed that the boilers which are currently operating on facility can be eliminated and the proposed system can supply the whole electricity requirements of the plant even with the simplest configuration. The best scenario was selected in terms of more power generation and efficiency of the cycle; however, they were also economically evaluated to identify the best option in terms of money savings and payback time.
